History

Reiki has its origins in Tibet and was developed by Dr. Usui in 1922. Dr. Usui taught Reiki until his death in 1926, He established the first Reiki clinic in Tokyo. leaving behind sixteen teachers. Mr Hayashi, broke away and formed his own clinic. Hawayao Takata, a patient at Hayashi¹s clinic, was trained in Reiki and is the teacher credited with bringing Reiki to the United States and Canada in the 1940¹s.

What is Reiki?

Reiki (Pronounced Ray-Key) is a method of natural healing based on the application of Universal Life Force Energy (the name literally means Universal Life Force Energy)

Reiki is a gentle "hands on" technique for stress reduction
and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is based
on the concept that everything in the universe is made up
of energy and this "life force energy" that flows all around
us is drawn in by the body nourishing the cells, organs
and glands. When one¹s energy is depleted, not in balance, or the flow is restricted by stress , injury or illness, etc., one is more susceptible to discomfort, further illness and disease. When one¹s energy is free flowing or balanced, one is more likely to feel relaxed and the body¹s own innate abilities are reinforced and utilized for healing.

How is Reiki offered?

Although Reiki is "hands on," unlike massage, it is applied
through a softer touch rather than a deeper pressure, while the client is fully clothed. The practitioner¹s hands are placed along energy centers on the head, neck, chest, abdomen, legs and feet.

What does it feel like?

The client may feel warmth cool, tingling, or nothing, except deep relaxation and calm.

What are the benefits?

Reiki may promote a reduction in anxiety, muscle tension and pain, faster wound healing, aid in promoting wellness, and a greater sense of well-being. It is useful during illness, after injuries, pre and post operatively, and for health promotion.
